After working with the Afar people of the Waki and Waytelayta villages for over 15 years, Dr. Haile-Selassie has come to understand their vision for their own future - one that is not dependent on the availability of grazing land for their livestock, but, instead, one that is filled with opportunities for future generations. He was inspired by their vision and established the Ko-K-Yo Foundation in 2016 to help them achieve their goals. Ko-K-Yo is working to provide educational and entrepreneurial opportunities for the children and women of the villages with the ultimate goal of empowering them to take agency in their own future.
